A List of Unprovenanced, Post-2002 Dead Sea Scrolls-like Fragments

[First version: 11 August 2016]

[Organized According to the Protestant Old Testament Canon]

This list builds upon Eibert Tigchelaar’s authoritative list, “A Provisional List of Unprovenanced, Twenty-First Century, Dead Sea Scrolls-like Fragments” (version 1.0; April 16, 2016; version 2; September 18, 2016), but is organized differently.

Statistical observations
NB! Only the fragments that have been “identified”, i.e. nos 1–83, form part of my statistics.

– 89%  (91 % with Tobit) of the Post-2002 Dead Sea Scrolls-like frgs are “biblical” (cf. Tigchelaar, version 2.0, 2: “Remarkable in this list is the very high number of fragments containing sections of biblical texts …”).

– 60 of the 81 biblical fragments, i.e. 74%, contain excerpts from 2-4 Bible verses. The distribution is as follows:

1 verse: 4 frgs

2 verses: 18 frgs

3 verses: 22 frgs

4 verses: 20 frgs

5 verses: 4 frgs

6 verses: 4 frgs

7 verses: 2 frgs

8 verses: 2 frgs

9 verses: 1 frg

10 or more verses: 3 frgs
